On April 23, 2024, Mr. Chai Wacharong, spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, announced that Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, who also serves as Minister of Finance, has directed authorities to capitalize on rising global animal feed prices, which are expected to boost Thailand’s animal feed exports this year. The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI) has been tasked with ensuring that Thai animal feed products meet high-quality and safety standards.

Driving Growth in the Animal Feed Industry

The government aims to develop the entire animal feed supply chain, covering both economic livestock feed and pet food. The Department of Science Service (DSS), under MHESI, is enhancing industry capacity through:

  • Manufacturing process optimization
  • Quality assurance for laboratory testing
  • Strengthening quality control measures
  • Expanding laboratory networks nationwide

Additionally, Thailand is seeking international certification as a reference material producer for animal feed, reducing reliance on expensive imports while boosting domestic production capabilities. This will help the Thai animal feed industry meet international demand, creating economic value through high-quality exports.

Projected Trade Value & Market Potential

Thailand’s animal feed export industry is expected to generate 300 billion baht in 2024, reinforcing its role as a key player in the global market. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin emphasized the importance of seizing economic opportunities, ensuring that Thai animal feed products remain competitive, affordable, and preferred by global consumers.
